I made granola today.

Sat Jun 30, 2007, 9:06 AM
Today I made a batch of granola using my mother's granola recipe. It's very good granola. Friends of mine have praised my mom for the quality of her granola.

Clicking that little "Random Deviant" link at the bottom of the page has taken up the majority of my time spent surfing the web, and I have found a few more deviantART foibles to rant about. First off, last week I wanted to find a decent drawing of a character named Slash (the evil turtle from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). After a few minutes searching the word "slash," I came to a shocking realization: the majority of pictures I was skimming through all involved pictures of popular Japanimation male characters engaging in homoerotic activities. I was appalled, to say the least. A quick search through Encyclopedia Dramatica revealed that the term "slash" is commonly applied to this sort of homosexual fanfic... thing. It's not that I'm a homophobe, or against homosexuality in any way, it's just the fact that when somebody wants to search for an awesome picture of the character Slash (I found one, by the way), they'll be pummeled with wave after wave of male on male cartoon characters. Folks, get a new fetish, please. These characters aren't real, and they never will be.

Next order of business, the question of originality when it come to your... "art." Now, I can understand when someone wants to draw an already existing character in their own style (except when people draw Invader Zim screwing Gir up the ass in Japanimation style, with accompanying poem. That's just disgusting), lots of people do it, and that is pretty much the staple of the mainstream American comic artist, but when you take Sonic the Hedgehog or Dr. Robotnik or whoever, and color them a purple and green doesn't make that your creation. Photoshopping a picture of Miles "Tails" Prower (who, in fact, is male and has always been male, let the stupid arguments cease) goldenrod and magenta does not make that picture yours. I can't begin to tell you of all the so-called "artists" I've seen whose entire body of work is comprised of drawings of Sonic the Hedgehog characters colored differently and wearing pants. It has become a whole other genre of art.

Whatever, fuck 'em. I'm tired.

Sincerely,

Johnny D!
